KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - The Killeen City Council has voted unanimously to approve emergency funding to keep the Friends in Crisis homeless shelter operational through the end of the year.

During a special meeting on Aug. 25, the council authorized $29,000 per month from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31, 2026, totaling $116,000.

The allocation will support operations through the program's fiscal year, delaying a planned Sept. 1 closure.
