Republican Mayes Middleton has conceded the race for Texas attorney general to Democrat Nathan Johnson.

Middleton, the current state senator for Texas Senate District 11, announced his concession in a social media post on Wednesday morning, saying: The election was held to replace longtime Attorney General Ken Paxton, who instead sought election to the U.S. Senate.

Both major-party nominees entered the general election as sitting state senators.
