The Democratic National Committee has filed a federal lawsuit accusing the Trump administration of illegally spending millions of taxpayer dollars on television advertisements promoting President Donald Trump just weeks before the midterm elections.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., alleges the ads were designed to boost the president's public image and help Republicans maintain control of Congress.

The commercials began airing in late September, featuring major moments from Trump's second term, including his administration's immigration enforcement efforts and military operations.
