(KXII) - Marshall County voters approved a new sales tax to fund emergency medical services, passing the measure 66% to 34%.

Marshall County EMS Director Cade Webb said staff gathered at the station to watch the results come in."Last night we all met up here at the station and watched the results come in, and we were just thrilled that all of our hard work has come to fruition," Webb said.

What the tax will fundThe half-cent sales tax has been in the works for about two years to address response time."Seconds matter, minutes matter. This will cut down significantly on our response times, and if we can get to the patient faster, it'll increase the likelihood of a good outcome," Webb said.
