KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - Killeen voters will decide eight amendments to the city's charter in the Nov. 3 election, covering issues including when city officials are elected and how they can be recalled.
The amendments take larger issues and divide them into smaller parts, according to Killeen City Council Member at Large Mellisa Brown."We're taking larger items and breaking them into smaller chunks. So that way, people can decide what parts of it they want included and what parts they do not," Brown said.
The eight propositions on the ballot are:Proposition A - Moving regular city elections to NovemberProposition B - Repealing the resign-to-run provisionProposition C - Filling vacancies on the City CouncilProposition D - Initiative and referendum petition timelineProposition E - Adoption of initiativesProposition F - Grounds for recallProposition G - Recall petition requirementsProposition H - Recall of district council memberProposition A: Moving regular city elections to NovemberProposition A would amend the charter to move regular elections for mayor and all council members to the November uniform election date during odd-numbered years."A lot of the citizens came out arguing that if we changed it to November, we'd get higher voter turnout. We'd have more civic participation, and they say what happened in May when we had so many people resigning and we almost didn't have a quorum," Brown said.
