When state leadership proposes docking a school district an entire letter grade over a single disputed library book, it exposes a fundamental flaw in how Texas measures educational quality.
Almost everyone would agree that library books in schools should be developmentally age-appropriate.
However, lowering an annual A-F performance rating, a metric ostensibly designed to evaluate academic achievement, to enforce administrative compliance proves that the current accountability system is detached from actual student learning.
