If you're trying to lose weight, choosing a diet soda instead of water may not make as much difference as you think, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Liverpool found that low-calorie and zero-calorie sweetened drinks performed about as well as water for weight loss and weight maintenance over two years.

The study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, followed 493 adults with overweight or obesity who participated in a structured weight-management program.
