HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The family of a man being kept alive by life support is demanding answers after learning the suspect accused of attacking him recently had a violent criminal charge dismissed and was referred to a mental health diversion program.

The case has also raised questions about how the criminal justice system handles defendants with serious mental health concerns.

Holding a photo of his cousin outside a northwest Harris County hospital on Friday, Hieu Huynh described Nhan Le as "a good kid" and struggled to put his emotions into words.
