Dealing with the aftermath of two summers of disastrous flooding in Kerr County has impacted not only the families whose homes were flooded and businesses that were impacted, but also first responders who repeatedly were called upon to make critical life-altering decisions in very difficult circumstances the past two summers.

As a retired first responder himself, local licensed professional counselor Christopher Loup organized a nonprofit called the First Responder Alliance for Counseling to work with first responders and their families using initial seed money from Kerrville Church of Christ.

"The money from Kerrville Church of Christ was used to set up the nonprofit and to provide training in 'Accelerated Resolution Therapy' to seven local mental health professionals, essentially expanding trauma-accessible care in Kerr County after the July 4, 2025, flood," Loup said.
