ATHENS, Texas (KLTV) - The Henderson County Commissioners Court proposed a 3. 6% increase in property taxes to fund rising demands on county services in the upcoming annual budget.

Commissioners approved a proposed property tax rate of $0. 343465 per $100 of valuation, which would lead to an increase of about $30 per year for a property valued at $250,000, according to a press release.

County Judge Wade McKinney explained that one of the most significant budget pressures stems from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office assuming additional responsibilities after issues with the Trinidad and Seven Points police departments.
