Comal County officials shared information from the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) regarding New World Screwworm and what livestock or pet owners need to know.

The social media post from the county emphasized that Comal County is not currently in an infested area or even an adjacent surveillance area.

New World Screwworm flies are attracted to preexisting wounds and mucous membranes where they lay their eggs, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
