LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Art in the Park is marking its 10th year at Jones Park, where a gathering that began in a small area of the park has grown into an annual community event featuring art, music, vendors and activities for children.

The event was created to bring art into north Lufkin, where Neighborhood Strong worked repairing homes for people who do not have the resources to keep them in good repair.

Organizers said the group's first home-repair project was in the area around Jones Park, and they wanted art to be part of the organization's broader work in the community."Art is a part of improving any community," Wayne Lawrence said, one of the three cofounders for the event, said.
