Almost a year after the Comal County Commissioners Court approved an agreement to place a K-9 memorial statue outside the sheriff's office front doors, the piece was unveiled on Saturday, Oct. 10.

From conception to completion, the project took about three years, during which the Citizens Sheriff Academy Alumni of Comal County (CSAACC) acquired funding and worked through the requirements of placing a statue on government property.

First Vice President of the CSAACC board Tracy Gibbons brought the idea to the sheriff's office after seeing artist Kristen Douglas Seitz's work on another project in Wisconsin, The Herald-Zeitung previously reported, and Sheriff Mark Reynolds and K-9 Trainer Sergeant Jake Smith were all for it.
