Runners and walkers lit up the runway at McMahon-Wrinkle Airport Sunday night during the inaugural "Light the Runway 5K - Glow for Our Heroes," an event honoring local first responders while encouraging health and community involvement.

The event was organized through a partnership between Big Spring Run Crew founder Renee Thomas, Airport Director Mike Feely, and members of the run crew.

Thomas said the idea grew from a desire to recognize the significance of September and honor first responders in connection with the remembrance of 9/11. "We wanted to do a run honoring our heroes," Thomas said, "and also encouraging people to be their own hero by being active and really taking responsibility for a healthy lifestyle and a healthy community.".
