DNA testing leads to arrest in 1981 Bexar County cold case murder

DNA testing has led to the arrest of an Arizona man on capital murder charges for a 1981 cold case murder of a 23-year-old woman in Bexar County, Texas.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - An Arizona man will soon be extradited to Texas on capital murder charges after new forensic testing identified him as the person responsible for a cold case.

The suspect, Kelly Lee Brower, 68, was arrested on Aug. 19, 2026, in Cottonwood, Arizona, for the sexual assault and murder of 23-year-old Yolanda Herrera.

Kelly Brower was arrested in the sexual assault and murder of Yolanda Herrera.(KBTX)On April 13, 1981, Herrera's unclothed body was discovered by children in a field near the 500 block of East Aviation Drive in Bexar County.
