AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - Clayton Tucker has won the race for next Texas agriculture commissioner after Republican Nate Sheets conceded Wednesday.
As the first Democrat that will hold the office since 1990, Tucker expressed confidence in the outcome Wednesday following an election night that showed significant ticket-splitting across the state."I just think Texans are sick and tired of being sacrificial lambs for other people's economic development," he said, pointing to voter frustration over corporate monopolies, data centers taking land and water, and power lines encroaching on rural communities.
Tucker said he plans to work across the aisle with legislative leadership to pass a state-level farm bill to support family farms and processors."So we will be working very closely with the governor-elect, with the lieutenant-governor-elect, the state Senate and the state House to create a truly bipartisan Texas farm bill that puts Texans first," he said.
