Comal County Emergency Management Coordinator Sammy Sikes was just a couple weeks into the job when this summer's flood events hit the Hill Country.

He was tasked with opening and managing the Emergency Operations Center, coordinating with state officials and other county departments and establishing a shelter for residents who were evacuated.

Now, his decades of emergency management experience, particularly with sheltering, has secured his appointment to co-chair the Texas Emergency Management Advisory Committee (TEMAC) Shelter Workgroup.
