A 17-year-old Smithson Valley student died in a motorcycle crash Thursday morning near the intersection of Stoney Creek and SH 46, according to the Department of Public Safety and a letter to Smithson Valley parents.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 9 a.m., where they discovered the juvenile rider deceased in a westbound ditch, according to DPS.

A preliminary investigation found that the motorcycle was traveling westbound when the rider failed to control his speed and traveled between a Ford pickup and a Chevrolet Silverado, striking both vehicles.
