Former Harlem Globetrotter Melvin Adams will perform at two free events at Sabinal Independent School District on Aug. 19, bringing a "high energy show" that aims to encourage students to believe in themselves.

The athlete will perform for students at 2 p.m., and will hold a community-wide event at 5 p.m. Sabinal secondary school principal Amanda Dean said Adams reached out to her directly, and said he wanted to return to Sabinal after visiting years ago.

Adams retired from the Globetrotters and professional basketball in 2000, and has since become a youth motivational speaker.
