CAMP COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A man driving down a county road with a flat tire caused 36 fires Tuesday along FM 993 in Camp County, according to volunteer firefighter and Pittsburgh Mayor David Abernathy.
Abernathy, who has been a volunteer firefighter for decades, said the man was hauling a trailer with a tire being driven on its rim, causing sparks and igniting fires along about a seven-mile stretch around 2:28 p.m. Tuesday."Part of the problem is this was a perfect storm," he said Wednesday.
"Everything came into alignment. This was the only part of the county that didn't get significant rain."Abernathy said the Pittsburg Fire Department responded and contacted the Texas Forest Service after seeing the extent of the fires.
