LEON VALLEY, Texas - Leon Valley police have installed six license plate reader cameras across the city as part of a $50,000 state grant meant to fund 13 cameras, a program officials say is designed to help investigators track vehicles connected to criminal cases.

Police Chief David Gonzalez said the cameras were placed strategically at intersections based on the types of cases officers investigate.

It was a group of community advisors and the police chief who began discussing the technology in 2024, and the first cameras were installed earlier this year.
