TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - NET Health has reported that there are five lab-confirmed cases of cyclospora within the seven-county district.

NET Health spokesman Terrence Ates said none of the five cases are related to each other, so NET Health does not categorize the cases as an outbreak in the region."We are highly encouraging all East Texas residents to minimize and eliminate their possible risk of exposure by making sure to thoroughly wash fresh fruits and vegetables before cooking, eating, or processing them, and to ensure to thoroughly wash their hands after using the bathroom," Ates said.

Cyclospora season runs from May 1 through Aug. 31.
