ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) - Grimes County commissioners spent more than two hours Wednesday debating how to raise pay for county workers without breaking next year's budget, but left the meeting without answers on how many employees would be affected or how much it would cost.

Commissioners are considering raising every full-time and part-time county employee to a minimum of $20 an hour, on top of a proposed $2 cost-of-living raise and up to $2 more based on merit evaluations.

The county's lowest-paid workers currently make $16. 50 an hour, excluding temporary employees."I thought when we started this budget, lowest person in the county was $16. 50," one commissioner said.
