ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) - Nearly 900 Grimes County residents signed a petition asking county commissioners to require stronger protections before approving tax breaks or incentives for large-scale industrial projects - a direct response to the county's handling of SpaceX's proposed Terafab facility.

The petition, presented Wednesday to the Grimes County Commissioners Court, calls for 12 specific protections including independent legal counsel paid through the county, water and environmental safeguards, road repair requirements, emergency services funding, and clawback provisions if a developer fails to meet its commitments.

Grimes County Residents for Responsible Development petition by KBTX Bobbie Jo Swafford, Director of Community Impact for Grimes County Citizens for Responsible Development, said the 894 signatures represent residents who couldn't be in the room."They want protections for Grimes County," Swafford said.
