BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - What was supposed to be a routine kickoff for the 14th annual Texas Trail Ride on Saturday came to a sudden halt when safety threats forced organizers to shut down the event before it even began.

Robertson County Sheriff Bill Ruland and the County Judge made the decision to revoke the event's mass gathering permit on Saturday afternoon after receiving urgent intelligence about potential violence."So the ones that we were made aware of were that they were going to shoot the place up," Sheriff Ruland said, describing the severe threats received by his office.

"Now that we had knowledge of it, we had to take some kind of action, and we sure didn't want to lose any lives out there."Retaliation threats stemmed from Bryan shootingsAccording to a press release from the Robertson County Sheriff's Office, the agency first received intelligence from another law enforcement agency on Tuesday, August 11.
