WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Late-afternoon rain could not dampen the Halloween spirit at McLennan Community College Thursday evening, as staff, law enforcement and local families quickly banded together to move the college's annual Trunk or Treat into the campus parking garage.

Originally planned for an open surface parking lot, the free community celebration shifted under cover just before the 6 p.m. start time, offering children of all ages a dry, safe environment to play games, show off costumes and collect candy.

For campus organizers, the quick pivot highlighted the tight-knit nature of the college community."As soon as the rain hit, we all got together and made a plan, and it wasn't just one person working to get everything moved," said Amber Boothe, an MCC police officer who joined the department about two months ago.
