TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A discussion over religious freedom and the rule of law took center stage in Van Zandt County as commissioners unanimously approved a resolution denouncing the use of Sharia law in place of the U.S. Constitution.
County leaders said the resolution is intended as a statement supporting the Constitution and existing U.S. law and does not interfere with anyone's right to practice their religion.
Several residents spoke about the issue during the commissioners court meeting."I'm here to say one thing plainly. Sharia as a legal system is not compatible with our Constitutional Republic," resident Nancy White told commissioners.
