New Braunfels ISD announced Wednesday it will advance its Long Range Sustainability Process to close a projected $7 million funding deficit for the 2027-2028 school year by consolidating two elementary campuses.

NBISD adopted a balanced 2026-27 budget earlier this year but warned of financial challenges in future years, as previously reported by The Herald-Zeitung.

The sustainability process includes a comprehensive review of district facilities, staffing, programs and resources to identify opportunities for greater efficiency and long-term financial sustainability, according to a release from the district.
