Martha Stewart sparked backlash over the weekend after posting a photo of herself appearing dressed as a homeless person for Halloween.
She deleted the post and apologized on Sunday, calling the costume "insensitive and not funny." What they're saying: "It's hard to admit when you've really screwed up," Stewart, 85, said on her personal Instagram account on Nov. 1. "I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry." The backstory: On Halloween, the businesswoman shared a photo of herself wearing ripped-up clothing with dirt on her face.
Stewart also carried a sign that read, "I am hungry. Help me." Several social media users called out Stewart, with some users labeling the costume as "tone deaf," "offensive" and "out of touch."
