HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Deputies are looking for a driver who crashed on the North Freeway and abandoned their passenger, who later died, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities said the unidentified driver was driving a black 2026 Hyundai Elantra northbound in the 19900 block of North Interstate Highway 45 at about 12:30 a.m., with Carlexia Shields in the front right passenger seat.

Deputies said a witness reported that the Hyundai Elantra drove off the road into a grass median on the east side of the roadway before striking a tree with the front right part of the car.
