COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Families shopping for back-to-school supplies this year will spend more than ever before, according to a Texas A&M University retailing expert.

Thomas McMillan, executive professor and director of the Center for Retailing Innovation at Texas A&M University's Mays Business School, told KBTX that the average family will spend around $800 per K-12 student this year.

He said the spending total is not the result of buying more; the same amount of goods simply costs more."This is going to be a record-breaking year, but it's not going to be one of those years where people are just buying a lot more," McMillan said.
