WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Texas Democrats scored a series of historic statewide victories in Tuesday's midterm elections, unseating several entrenched Republican incumbents in key executive offices, while Central Texas Republicans largely managed to hold their ground in local legislative contests.

In the race for lieutenant governor, Democrat Vikki Goodwin defeated three-term incumbent Republican Dan Patrick, securing more than 53% of the vote to capture the gavel as presiding officer of the Texas Senate.

Democrats also took the Texas attorney general's office, with Democrat Nathan Johnson defeating Republican Mayes Middleton.
