Recognizing the importance of mental health diagnoses, especially in young children, Seguin ISD's transportation department recently partnered with the Seguin Police Department for specialized training.

Just before the start of classes, Seguin Police Department Mental Health Officers Martina Wissmann and Gus Jimenez led Understanding Mental Health and De-escalation Techniques and talked to the district's bus drivers who interact with students on a daily basis.

The first step to helping a student struggling with mental health is to understand different types of mental illnesses, Wissmann said.
