MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) - A routine patrol in West Texas turned into a multi-agency hazmat recovery operation over the weekend after a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) corporal detected a buried radioactive source.

According to DPS officials, a corporal assigned to the Radiological/Nuclear Threat Detection (Rad/Nuc) Unit was on routine patrol on Friday, July 24, near South County Road 1210 in Midland County.

During the patrol, a radiation detection system triggered an alarm.
