(KGNS) - Crews are installing a new chlorine dioxide unit at the Jefferson Water Plant that Laredo utilities officials say could address taste and odor problems in tap water.
Utilities officials said high summer temperatures commonly spark algae blooms in the Rio Grande, causing the odor and taste at residents' faucets.
Utilities leaders said they hear the community's frustrations."I know there were complaints and issues about odor and taste, so this is a unit that is hopefully going to be assisting us with that," said Ralph Trevino, assistant director of the Laredo Utilities Department.
