WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Baylor University's live mascots, black bears Indy and Belle, are staying at an off-campus facility while their on-campus habitat undergoes renovations.
For more than a century now Baylor has had live mascots.
Dr. Austin Smith, the associate director of student activities, says the bears have become a campus staple."It becomes this point of pride for campus, you know who else has bears? There's some other schools that do have live mascots, there's actually quite a few, but we're one of the few that has such a large animal and it's not something that's maybe more like a dog, or something domestic," Smith said.
