COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - A federal courthouse is one step closer to becoming a reality in Brazos County, after the U.S. House passed legislation this week that would end decades of residents, attorneys and jurors having to travel to Houston for federal court matters.

The bill, known as the Local Access to Courts Act, passed the House "overwhelmingly," according to local attorney Gaines West of West Webb Allbritton & Gentry, who has pushed for a Brazos County federal court since 1986.

The legislation now heads to President Donald Trump's desk and is expected to be signed within the next couple of weeks."The federal court has been a dream of mine for really now 40 years," West said.
