A Brownwood High School graduate, Mary Salazar is making an impact on the lives of the children in the town where she was raised, serving as a teacher at East Elementary.

"I just finished my 3rd year teaching," Salazar said.

"I was hired on at East Elementary in 2023 as a second-grade teacher where I am still currently. Last year, I taught all 4 core subjects: reading, social studies, science, and my favorite, math. This upcoming school year, I will be teaching science, social studies, and math. I have always loved math and everything that comes with it. My favorite part of math is showing my students all the different strategies that can be utilized to find the same." Salazar knew from a young age the career path she wanted to take.
