1 suspect in custody, 1 at large after fleeing crash involving Conroe ISD school bus, district says

CONROE — Authorities have apprehended both individuals involved in a hit-and-run collision with a Conroe Independent School District bus Wednesday afternoon in the Gleneagle area, according to law enforcement and school officials.

The rear-end crash occurred on a roadway near Knob Hollow and Jonquil Pathway when a vehicle struck a Campbell Elementary school bus that was transporting pupils home from classes. Sixteen students occupied the bus at the time of impact, with two sustaining minor injuries, according to district spokesperson comments.

Officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene where they discovered that both the driver and passenger of the striking vehicle had abandoned their automobile. During the apprehension of the suspects, law enforcement recovered a firearm that one of them had been carrying away from the crash site.

Emergency medical services evaluated the two injured students at the location. Neither child required transportation to a medical facility for further treatment, officials said.

The incident prompted Irons Junior High School, which shares proximity to the crash location, to institute secure protocols as a precautionary measure while authorities worked to locate and arrest the second suspect. The facility maintained elevated security procedures until both individuals were taken into custody.

Law enforcement from both the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Conroe ISD Police Department coordinated response efforts at the scene and during the search operation.
