Former Harmony ISD head football coach, wife killed in car crash

EAST BERNARD, Texas (KLTV) - Former Harmony ISD head football coach Jeremy Jenkins and his wife Brandy were killed in a car crash Saturday night. [KLTV Channel 7 News]

A fatal vehicular accident Saturday evening claimed the lives of Jeremy Jenkins and his wife Brandy, educators who both served the East Bernard Independent School District in leadership roles.

Jenkins held the position of head football coach and athletic director for East Bernard ISD at the time of his death. Brandy Jenkins had recently joined the district's faculty as a junior high instructor, having completed just three days of classroom instruction since the academic year commenced. The couple leaves behind three sons.

Prior to his tenure at East Bernard, Jenkins had worked as a football coach at Tenaha ISD and Mount Enterprise ISD. East Bernard ISD Superintendent Courtney Hudgins released a statement confirming the deaths and characterizing Jenkins as an instructor who demonstrated profound care for his athletes. "He coached up our kids in the most loving way," Hudgins said.

In response to the tragedy, East Bernard ISD announced plans to provide counseling services and emotional support resources to both students and employees. District officials indicated they would disseminate additional information about available assistance in the days ahead.

The East Bernard Athletic Booster Club issued a statement urging the school community to embrace the couple's three sons with compassion and support. "Right now, football doesn't matter. Wins don't matter. None of it does," the organization stated. "What matters is surrounding these boys with the same kind of love and support their family has given to so many of ours."
