Hudson man arrested in deadly gang-related shooting at Angelina County club

A Hudson man faces aggravated assault charges in connection with a fatal shooting that erupted during a confrontation between rival gang members at a nightclub in Angelina County.

Jonathan "JohnBoy" Sanchez was taken into custody Sept. 9 following the Valentine's Day incident at the Hangout Night Club, situated along Highway 69 South, according to records maintained by the Angelina County jail system. The shooting claimed two lives and occurred during a heated dispute that escalated from a verbal altercation into violence between members affiliated with the Hoover Crips and Latin Kings organizations.

Authorities responding to the scene discovered two fatalities at the establishment, along with a firearm, spent shell casings and bloodstains suggesting additional victims may have sustained injuries during the gunfire, according to an investigative affidavit filed by the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives built their case against Sanchez through a combination of physical evidence collected at the scene, statements gathered from witnesses present during the incident and data recovered from cellular phone records. Additionally, security camera footage from inside the nightclub proved instrumental in establishing his involvement in the shooting, the affidavit indicates.

Investigators concluded that the available evidence, witness accounts, mobile phone data and video surveillance collectively identified Sanchez as one of the individuals who discharged a firearm during the gang-related confrontation.
