Texas mom in coma after serious crash on Highway 6

A 30-year-old Clifton woman remains hospitalized with severe injuries following a two-vehicle collision northwest of the city on July 20. Kasidy Stewart was driving her son Asher, 3, to a therapy appointment when her truck veered into opposing lanes near Farm Road 2136, possibly while attempting to avoid another vehicle entering the intersection, according to the Department of Public Safety. The truck struck an oncoming Ford F-250.

The impact forced Stewart's vehicle into a roadside ditch, where it collided with a metal support bar. The bar did not give way upon impact and became lodged in the engine compartment, nearly bisecting the front of the truck. The structural damage was severe enough that family members consider it remarkable either occupant survived.

Stewart sustained a traumatic brain injury in the crash and currently remains unconscious. However, medical personnel report she is breathing independently and has been moved from intensive care to a neurorehabilitation facility in Austin, where she is expected to begin recovery treatment. Her prognosis and timeline for potential recovery remain undetermined as doctors continue evaluation.

Asher sustained a fractured femur in the collision but survived without life-threatening injuries. His sister, Krystal Allen, credited the positioning of his car seat with saving his life, noting that his usual seating placement would have left him in a far more dangerous location during impact. The boy has since displayed encouraging signs of recovery, smiling and laughing during his hospital stay, which Allen described as a source of hope for the family.

Stewart's life trajectory before the crash reflected deep personal motivation. She had recently enrolled in nursing school with aspirations of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner. That commitment to child welfare stemmed partly from tragedy: eight years ago, she lost her daughter to a rare chromosomal disorder before the child's second birthday. Allen said that loss had become the driving force behind her sister's desire to help others facing similar circumstances.

The investigation into the crash's exact circumstances remains ongoing. A fundraising campaign has been established to help the family manage mounting medical expenses during Stewart's recovery period.
