UPDATE: Suspect wanted in connection with Brownfield shooting turns himself in

BROWNFIELD, Texas (KCBD) - The man wanted in connection with a shooting in Brownfield turned himself in to the Terry County Jail Thursday night. [CBS7]

A shooting in Brownfield early Saturday morning left one person injured and set off a manhunt that ended when the primary suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities nearly a week later.

Brownfield police officers responded to gunfire in the 1600 block of East Tate around 2:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026. Upon arrival at a residence in that area, officers discovered a 28-year-old Hispanic male suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel transported the victim to Brownfield Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Responding officers stopped a vehicle departing the scene and took two individuals into custody at that time. Justin DeLaCruz, 27, and Braxton Gil, 27, were booked into the Terry County Jail and each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident.

A third individual involved in the shooting, identified as Shacoby Hill Jr., 30, fled the location before law enforcement arrived. The Brownfield Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Hill on the same aggravated assault charge and classified him as a fugitive from justice. Police cautioned that Hill could be armed and instructed the public to report any sightings to authorities rather than approach him directly.

Hill presented himself to the Terry County Jail on Thursday evening, nearly a week after the shooting occurred. Police booked him into the facility and formally charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
