(KGNS) - A Laredo mother is turning personal experience into purpose by launching a free nonprofit to help young adults with disabilities build more independent lives.

Karen Alvarez founded Together Laredo after raising her son Emilio, who was born with hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy.
