As Houston students prepare to head back to class, local law enforcement is making campus security a top priority.

The Houston ISD Police Department, Houston Police Department and several local agency partners are set to announce Project Safe Start Tuesday morning - a multi-agency initiative focused on increasing security presence on and around HISD campuses for the 2026-2027 school year.

The announcement is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at HISD Police Headquarters, located at 3500 Tampa St. in Houston.
