FALLS COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - Battle Ground to Breaking Ground is a comprehensive educational program by Texas AgrAbility and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service that helps active or military veterans and their families start sustainable agricultural businesses."I went to Afghanistan and Iraq. Fought in both wars, did my time. I got injured overseas, came back, and finally what had happened to me was my spine collapsed. I needed surgery, so they medically retired me from the Army," Joseph Burdulinski, a Falls County rancher, said.

After 15 years in the Army, Burdulinski bought a ranch just outside of Lott, Texas."They then sat me down to look over finances and a business plan and set me up with a business planner to make sure everything was good. We put everything on paper so it just wasn't a wild dream," Burdulinski said.

"I have horse quality hay, I make a lot of square bales off of my big field. On this side over here, I do all the cow hay so I can feed both. I started with five head of cattle. I'm at 30 right now. I will bale hay for other people, I will shred for other people, and I'm hoping to start planting seeds for other people."Burdulinski was awarded a purple heart and suffers from PTSD.
