BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - For more than 3 years, residents of Bryan and College Station have raised their concerns about the medians along Texas Avenue.

Their push has culminated in a city council vote planned on Tuesday in Bryan to determine if the removal of some medians from Rosemary Drive to Highway 21 will be put on November's election ballot."The public has been consistent over the last two years in expressing their desire to see a better situation with the medians. Surely there are some medians that have done some good, but there are many, many that have done harm," said Denise Fries, a volunteer who has gathered signatures for the median removal petition.

Denise is one of the many volunteers who have worked to gather signatures for the petition to have the matter put to a vote."I would say this is the most significant issue that we're concerned about with the medians: how hard it is for first responders to safely do their job quickly. If they're in a situation where they're trying to get to the scene of an accident or someone's home and a fire truck is expected to do a U-turn, where it's even challenging for a pickup truck to do a U-turn, it's not reasonable," said Fries.
