(KGNS) - Laredo City Council has directed staff to begin formal talks with United ISD about the vacant Matias de Llano Elementary School.

The direction follows a proposal from District 6 Councilmember Dr. Tyler King to give the former school a new purpose, first reported on Monday, Sept. 21. The city is moving forward with discussions with the school district and potentially Webb County to explore partnership options.

The property will also be considered as part of the city's indoor recreation feasibility study, which is expected to be released in the spring.
