A blaze Monday afternoon that destroyed a barn and claimed the life of a dog remains under investigation, according to Hutto Fire Rescue.

Crews at 3:39 p.m. Aug. 24 rushed to the 1000 block of CR 138 at 3:39 p.m. and arrived at 3:41 p.m. to find the barn "fully involved." Firefighters working under a heat advisory where temperatures soared to nearly triple digits brought the blaze under control within an hour, but not before the structure collapsed.

The conflagration also spread into nearby brush, but first responders were able to protect an adjacent residence, according to reports.
