According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Rising Star man was killed in a two-vehicle accident that occurred in Jones County on US Highway 83/84, a quarter of a mile west of Farm to Market Road 126 North, at 5:54 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. The preliminary investigation determined that a 2024 Ford E-350 was traveling northbound on US 83/84, with a 2003 Peterbilt 379 truck tractor towing a 2017 Wilson livestock semi-trailer following in the same direction.

The driver of Ford slowed down and moved onto the shoulder to attempt a U-turn.

As the Peterbilt approached, the Ford's driver executed a U-turn when it was unsafe to do so, entering the Peterbilt's path.
